"Poor flow, brush marks, dries too fast, runs, required two coats for white on white! And I have been painting for over 40 years."

Excellent Paint

"I am a do-it-yourself homeowner who has used a variety of paint brands for various projects, but never Sherwin Williams. In the quest to find a perfect white paint for our kitchen cabinets, we came across Pro Classic in High Reflectance White and thought it would be perfect. After reading reviews, however, we became worried.
I am happy to report that the paint is incredible! I've been rolling it on and then brushing it out and the results look very pro.
I would think that those having trouble are in a hurry or inexperienced painters. As someone with a moderate level of painting ability, I don't find it difficult to use at all."

Only trim paint I use.

"The excellent flow and leveling during application and the durability when dry are the reasons I only use this paint for trimwork. I'm a residential painting contractor and no matter what other brand of paint they may insist upon, I insist on using this product for their trim."

"Upon using the semi gloss white to do my kitchen trim and door I have to say I was not impressed. I found the consistency to that of a think syrup. The surface had previous been painted with an oil some ten years ago. All surfaces had been correctly preped. I noticed right off the brush marks. As I continued to paint I also noticed the paint pulling. It would also begin to bunch on the brush. I called the store and they immediately suggested I add a Floetrol additive. Which I did. I also went to a softer brush. This helped some what but I still feel the paint is still not right. For the money they charge I shouldn't have to add anything. Second of all I shouldn't have to figure out why it doesn't self level like an oil based product. Third when you look at the cost I would definitely choose another brand."

Ok paint for trim

"I have yet to try any other paint for trim, but with using this paint, it seems thick, and is a little difficult to work with. I've had trouble with coverage being too thin when 'overbrushed' or running when I try to use enough to get adequate coverage with 2 coats. The finished product is very durable. I will continue to use it because I started re-painting the entire house's trim with it. Will just have to be more careful with it to make it look good. I would encourage others to try other trim paints before going to this one, but like I said, I haven't tried anything else."

"I just don't understand how this paint could have any negative reviews. Quite simply it is the best interior trim paint! I have used extensively for trim work and have also used pro classic to paint furniture. I have never had anything less than remarkable results. This paint gives you the results of an oil with the luxury of easy clean up and quick dry time. If you use good equipment and sound painting technique you can't mess up with this paint"

Great Trim & Door Paint
 September 25, 2011

"I have now used both the Gloss and Semi-Gloss latex ProClassic for re-painting the trim and doors around my house and couldn't be more satisfied. I have a large dog that slobbers a lot and I have yet to find a better latex trim paint for keeping clean and wiping off any scuffs or messes. The previous store brand trim paints I have used have not been able to hold up to the constant cleaning.
I followed the SW employee's recommendation to add a latex extender and put on two thin coats versus one thick and I did not have any issues applying the paint. I am just a DIY homeowner but I would definitely recommend this product."

"Have used SW products almost exclusively for 30 plus years working professionally years ago and when painting any of my homes over the years or doing work on the side. I tried the ProClassic - High Gloss for trim/doors and was overly disappointed. It is very thick and would compare it to the consistency of 'sticky thick cake mix'. I have always used SW oil base and will probably go back to it for trim/doors."

The Paint I Was Looking For

"I'm on my fifth house, and for years I've looked for a water-based paint that is smooth like an alkyd when dry and this is it. You have to trust the paint: lay it on with a few strokes and don't go back and try to touch it up once it starts to dry. The result is fabulous. I'm not a beginner, but I'm not a pro, either. Once you get the hang of it, you'll love the results."

"Try to apply thin coats and you get streaks because it starts to dry instantly. Apply too much and it runs, then dries right away. Try to sand it and it smears and tears."

The Best Trim Paint On The Market

"All the negative comments are completely off base, either they were applying it with a broom, dried out old brush or worked it to within a hair of it's life.
The paint goes on easily, the brush strokes level out as described and leaves a glass like finish.
I would never consider using any other paint for trim. I'd give it "Six Stars" if it were possible."

Best Trim Paint Ever!

"Once you get the hang of it...don't put it on too thick or play with it...you'll love it. I have used the satin and semigloss on all the trim in my home a few years back, including a staircase, and have found it to look great and hold up EXTREMELY well.
Like other people mentioned this paint will level out and the brush marks will disappear."

We love the results!

"I chose this paint because I wanted to paint ceiling, walls and cabinets all one color, one sheen in our kitchen. At first I thought I might have made a mistake by choosing satin finish for a kitchen! But this paint amazed me! We did two coats in SW Decor White and the results are almost an "old world" look with the satin, which worked great for the cottage-farm house style I was designing. Not sure if any company, even SW, would recommend satin for cabinets--especially kitchen cabinets--but it seems to be working fine for us...even cleaning up olive oil splatters near the stove! It went on smoothly and dried very nicely. It covered imperfections in the walls very well. Latex paints take about 30 days to FULLY cure so give your paint that time to see how it really responds to usage. Yes, it's rather pricey but we got in on their 40% off sale! :-D"

Great Paint for Experienced Painters

"I have used this product for a couple of years now. This is a great paint that is worth every penny. Applying this product takes serious experience. I would not recommend this product to a homeowner who has little experience in painting. It's my opinion that the individuals who left a negative review for this product probably are likely the less skilled painters. The smooth finish of this product is second to none if applied correctly."

Wonderful Cabinet Paint

"This is the best cabinet paint around! It dries so level and a hard finish. You have to take your time but worth the time! I painted my cabinets using this paint in the Mulberry Silk and they look wonderful. The paint is thick and can be time consuming as you have to re-apply paint to your brush often but the results are amazing!"

Terrible paint

"This paint is shockingly bad. It is somehow simultaneously too thick (too much drag) and too thin (it sags something fierce over a well-prepared surface). I'm painting over the same color but with a different texture and after 3 coats on one surface STILL see what look like dry spots. Brush marks cannot be eliminated. I've had better luck with big box paint at less than half the price. I've been a SW fan for 30+ years so this is a serious disappointment."

Excellent Product, MUST READ!

"I've used and recommended this product since I've been in business. I use it on all trim and doors that I paint. It's leveling characteristics and durability are second to none. HOMEOWNERS....no matter how skilled of a painter you think you are, this product is different than anything else you've used before. I've found the largest problem to be that the store workers sell this stuff to people and don't tell them how to use it. This product CAN NOT be overworked. It's our tendency to work normal paints until they're smooth. This stuff levels itself. You apply the paint to a nice coverage and leave it alone! Like any paint though, if it's applied too thick, it will run. I rarely use a brush to apply this stuff. The best method if you don't have a sprayer is to use a 6" fine foam roller. You may have to use a brush to get the cracks but use the roller immediately after that and paint the body of your work. ONCE YOU GET THE HANG OF THIS PRODUCT, IT'S THE ONLY TRIM PAINT YOU'LL USE!"

Frustrating paint

"This is the most difficult paint I have ever used. The first coat went on great, but the second coat sags. The other reviews here are absolutely correct when they say it is frustrating and a waste of money. I am an experienced painter and generally like SW paint, but the company is doing a great disservice to the consumer to market this paint as the top-of-the-line product. This is terrible paint!!!"

Worst I've seen

"I've used a lot of paint over the years. Expensive, cheap, somewhere in-between. Normally, as in all things, you get what you pay for. Not with this. It's the worst I've ever seen for sagging. Unless I scrape the brush practically dry it's almost guaranteed to sag. And sometimes even then. And do NOT be tempted to brush out a drip if you've left it more than about 2 minutes. There's no open time at all. It might work better with the addition of something like Floetrol, but why should I have to? I surely do wish my Benjamin-Moore dealer hadn't closed his local shop :-(."
