Poor quality and coverage

"I agree with everything said by Anonymous, 4-5 posts ago in February. After 3 coats of a bold color in eggshell finish, I couldn't live with the streaky wall in my kitchen and covered it with another brand. An expensive mistake - and this paint spattered more also."

Duration has proved to be an exceptional paint

"We have used Duration paints for 5 years now, and always with exceptional results. The paint applies beautifully, looks great and wears like the titanium that's in it. In several settings, the fact the wall reflects differently depending on the angle of light, adds an pleasing depth of character. Highly recommend this paint."

Great Product

"Used the Duration paint for the first time this past weeked to paint an entire bathroom, ceiling included. After priming (Sherwin Williams Pro-block Oil Based Primer) and letting that dry, the Duration paint went on perfectly. I was amazed at how thick the paint was compared to other brands. There were a couple of spots I missed the first time around so I went ahead and put on a full second coat, otherwise one coat may have been enough. This paint is easy to apply and dries very nice and evenly. I'm a novice painter and am very amazed at how professional this paint looked once dry. 100% happy and satisfied with this product. I would definitely recommend."

"The paint may be durable, but it took 3 coats to get it looking good. First two coats still looked "streaky" - I MUCH prefer using the SW Super Paint ! Will stick with Super Paint in the future."

"As a painter, artist, and interior designer I would have to say that Duration Home is simply the best interior latex paint on the market as of today. It's a step up from SuperPaint. It goes on like silk and acts as silk. One coat, however, will not cover.Once you apply two-or even three if need be-you'll have the best looking walls, etc! This paint makes the walls come alive and breathe."

"We recently used this paint to cover the interior of our home at the recommendation of 3 professional painters. We were not disappointed! This stuff is magic. Several of the rooms only needed one coat, only one of the browner colors needed two coats. The walls wipe off beautifully and the sheen is lovely!"

Very disapointed

"Found this paint to be very disappointing to say the least. After priming the trim I was painting it still took anywhere from 3 to 4 coats to cover. I was going over a white prime with a dark tan to golden brown color. I found the paint to be very thin and watery, left many brush strokes. Will not buy it again."

"This is a paint for me. On occasion I was able to apply just a single layer and it was enough, It goes on smoothly, and does not leave brush or roller marks. I have tried big store brands and was not happy with the result. This paint was an answer for me."

Kitchen Cabinets

"I finished my cabinet facelift using gloss duration about 10 months ago and am very pleased. Durability is great, cleans easily. Cabinets today show virutally no signs of wear. I agree with another comment; carefully consider and test your roller for finish. I rolled my cabinets which gave a bit rougher finish than I'd hoped for, but sprayed the doors that gave a finish that was just AWESOME. Once a year I fall victim to the big box store convenience, and am always reminded why I'm a loyal SW customer."

"I bought two gallons of this paint to cover my living room/dining room and hallway, but didn't even finish the first one! It covered so well on the first coat that I only had to touch up a couple spots eventhough I painted a very light gray over a very bright teal. I was comepletely done in 3 hours thanks to this product. Awesome!!"

Easier than I thought

"I read the web info and reviews before I purchased Duration. I liked that fact you could get a matte finish that was scrubbable. I was challanged by the reviewers who said they had trouble with the application, and wanted to test my ability to get a great finish. It was only one wall- an accent wall using Aurora Brown. I primed the wall with the recommended primer tinted light grey followed by two coats of Duration (one coat a day.) It would have covered in one coat but in one section I probably didn't roll it in multiple directions. Two coats fixed that. It looks great and went on easily. It is important not to press the roller, just let it glide on and do the standard "W" pattern followed by something like a "Z" and work one box area at a time. I'm glad i picked Duration. You don't need to be afraid of the few negative comments. I'm betting they were trying to press on the roller; that would cause drips and ridges no matter how much self-leveling capacity it has. If I can do it (50 year old woman who paints about 100 SF per year,) anyone can."

My impression

"I have used this paint in matte and satin finishes and in several colors and bases. To this point I have been very dissatisfied with it's coverage. I was told and expected alot more out of it than I actually got. It's not enough to keep me from using it again as it is a very durable and good paint all-in-all. I may recommend another line or either inform the H.O. that it will cost a little extra for the extra coat it is going to take. IMO SuperPaint and Cashmere have better coverage, but where odor is a factor, it will be Duration or maybe even ProMar 200 0 VOC which I have been pleasantly surprised with."

Not impressed

"We were painting a spare bedroom and had to use this product because of the color I chose. The color match was perfect but I'm not impressed with the product. We primed the walls & ceiling and the duration covered the ceiling fine but the darker primed walls needed touch ups. I asked for eggshell finish and the salesgirl said that even though the can says satin,,,it was actually eggshell. Well on the walls it looks shiney. And my husband and I thought it was difficult to wash off our hands. Even with the 30% sale, I don't think I would use this product again."

The Best...

"I am one of the weirdos that loves to paint. I have become so sick and tired of of the lousy paint that people want me to paint with i.e Valspar, Behr you know the ones. I try and convince folks that by using these paints that they are wasting their money in the long run. Sherwin-Williams Duration is possibly one of the best paints that I have used. I use it in my own house. I'll always buy this and another brand that I won't mention. This is a few dollars more but it is well worth it. It goes on smooth and covers and hides well. I always use 2 coats no matter what and the finished product speaks for it self."

"I tried duration 7 years ago i didn't like it then. It doesn't go on smooth and there's lots of differential gloss. I bought another quart last week because that's all I needed and all that was avail in a quart, again I do not like this paint . It feels like the brush get's "crusty"; cutin and roller don't blend well. The matte is not matte. I will never buy this paint again. I love the cashmere and promars and will buya gallon and sacrifice the rest just to paint with a high quality paint."
