" The reviewers who had trouble with this product remaining sticky and getting mold did not apply this correctly!! Which is SO EASY!
All you need to do is apply a liberal coat. Let the wood soak up all that it can, and then wipe off ALL of the excess stain!!!
If you don't wipe off the excess, what happens is it will pool on top of the fully saturated wood, and it will somewhat dry to a sticky film, then water can get inside, between the saturated wood and the sticky layer, it grows mold and mildew, and the top layer stays sticky, which can bubble or wrinkle too!!!
So, all you have to do is wipe off all excess stain with a dry clean cloth!!! And you will have a great product!!!
The reason this does not happen as often with products from the big box store is because they take stain, just like this product and then thin it down with 50-75% or more mineral spirits, basically giving you nothing in a can... you apply it, the mineral spirits evaporates and your left with a nice dry surface with very little actual stain inside the wood... it looks great that week or month, but the wood is under protected and in a short time you notice it's basically all worn away, because the wood never had enough stain in it... basically they idiot proof it while also ensuring you will come back and buy more in a year or two at the most!
Honestly the SW superdek oil based products are a great value because your getting a rich, fully saturating product that will give your wood 100% saturation very easily, but because of this you do need to make sure your not over applying which is very simple, you just let the stain soak in, and wipe off the excess before it dries!!!! And bam! Long lasting beauty! "

You need to wipe off the excess.
Apply the stain liberally, let the wood soak in all that it can, after an hour or so, less if it's hot out, any stain that isn't fully soaked up needs to be wiped away with a dry clean cloth.
If you don't wipe away the excess, what happens is that puddle of stain that cannot soak in, will somewhat dry to a film on top of wood that has 100% saturation, this forms a pocket that water gets into, which causes mold and mildew and bubbles and wrinkling ... all the things described by reviewers who mis-use an oil based stain.
The reason this doesn't happen with cheap big box store products is because they thin the stain down 50-75% with mineral spirits... which carries the small amount of stain, and then evaporates, leaving you with a dry surface, which is good, but also with an under-saturated surface that wears away much quicker because there is not enough product left in the wood. So, it's idiot proof, but honestly I'd rather use the SW product, read the back of the can, wipe off the excess, and have a long lasting, properly saturated, product that looks great.
Your choice, but I will choose the SW and apply it correctly! "
