" I eventually convinced my wife to allow me to use a solid stain, rather than our previously applied, oil-based transparent stain on our mountain log home. We had a difficult time agreeing on color, but eventually settled on "Tobacco," which we custom-mixed with a darkened version of "Driftwood." The final color has a brownish-green hue with hints of grey. We think that it's perfect for logs and will do a much better job protecting the exterior logs (from insects, sun & weather) than the (extremely expensive) transparent stain we previously used, which lasted only two years. The S-W solid stain gave us great coverage and was easy to apply (we became very familiar with it after covering more than 180 porch balusters). We'll know more after 6-7 years, but so far after one year, it seems to be holding up quite well and looks great.
