" Used this to prime laminate cabinet doors in my bathroom. Brushed it on, and it leveled out perfectly and sanded to a powder. For fun I tested it on an old piece of trim with glossy varnish without sanding. Excellent adhesion! It's like the old Adhesion Primer, perhaps better, and it definitely beats the other stuff from Zinsser. I'll be using this on my front door eventually. "

My favorite paint

" This is a great paint! I've used it in the matte and semi gloss sheens. It's super easy to apply, cut-in and rolling blend together nicely. This paint just glides off the brush and flows out nice and smooth. It has some odor, sort of a weird sweet and plastic-y smell, but it's really not that bad in my opinion, and the smell disappears in a day. Plus, it seems to stick to just about anything.
Generally I will always do two coats when painting, even if it looks like I could get away with just one. Invest the time and effort to do it right the first time, and you'll get much better results, and you won't have to go back and redo it sooner.
I used the semigloss in my bathrooms and kitchen, and I really like the look of it. I used the matte finish everywhere else, it has a nice subtle glow to it that I like.
The durability is just fine--no complaints here. No water spots in the bathrooms or kitchen, grubby hand prints wipe right off with a cloth on the matte finish. Tip: use microfiber cloths for cleaning, they're the best.
Only complaint is the price, so get it on sale. "

Re formulation not as durable

" I painted some doors and trim with this product in semigloss a few years ago with good results, though I found it a bit thick and difficult to work with. The end result cured to a very tough finish, almost like an alkyd.
Last year, I painted my kitchen cabinets. The sales rep mentioned that ProClassic had been reformulated, I presume for VOC regulations. I primed with white pigmented shellac to block out extremely stubborn stains (nothing else worked), then brushed on two coats (spraying was not an option).
The first coat went on great! Very forgiving, and it dried nearly mirror smooth. Only by putting my nose right up against the surface could I see brush marks. However, the second coat was a different story. I waited 24 hours, lightly scuff sanded, and applied the second coat. It did not level out nearly as good, and brush marks were very noticeable. I don't understand why this would be the case. While I'm not a professional, I'm very experienced with painting, and got excellent results with the first coat. I wanted to do two coats for better durability.
I've now found that the new formulation is not as durable as the old ProClassic used to be. It's definitely softer, and less washable than what is on my trim. So the application and durability loses two stars, unfortunately. "

" Used this product in the standard eggshell finish in our school's break room. Primed first with multi-purpose primer due to the previous coating's high gloss, then used two coats of this product.
Very easy to apply, almost no odor. The end result looks very nice, the teachers were impressed! It's holding up pretty good, too. Our vending machine delivery guy bumped the wall with the wheel of his dolly, the mark wiped right off. Impressive for the low price point. "

Over all it's good with some reservations

" I work as a school custodian and we do a lot of painting in-house. We use this product in semi-gloss in the restrooms, corridors, and the lower half of the gym. Very tenacious adhesion on the old paints that were used, and much more durable than ordinary latex coatings. However, I've found that the darker colors are less durable than the white base. In addition, the darker colors don't level out as good and leave more noticeable brush and roller marks. Another thing to keep in mind: the sheen is more on the glossy side, and in certain situations creates a good deal of glare.
It stands up to the abuse that the kids subject it to fairly well. Hand prints and grime come right off with a microfiber cloth and light cleaner, tougher marks that require a little elbow grease usually won't ruin the sheen. Even some types of ink wipe right off, though other types don't, obviously. Though, again, the darker colors are less durable and more prone to permanent scuffing.
If the durability of the deeper bases could be fixed, it would be five stars all the way. "

" I'm a bit confused by the negative reviews here. I've used this primer on multiple projects with excellent results. It's got great adhesion on old, glossy paints, it applies easily and has good flow and leveling, and it's low odor. Good stain blocking, too.
Over all, one of the best all-purpose primers out there. Highly recommended. "
